If you stick around my blog long enough, eventually you will learn that I am quite the Italophile. I have been very fortunate to visit such a beautiful country on numerous occasions, sometimes even a couple of times per year. However, due to some personal matters my trips to Italy have been on temporary hiatus. I will return again…but for now I dream of Italy!
And if you follow me on Instagram you will notice that I posted a picture a few days ago of a vignette highlighting three stacked books, one of them being “Italy of my Dreams” authored by American interior designer Matthew White. I purchased the book many years ago and it still remains to be one of my favorites.

When the book was first published there were limited edition copies housed in a beautiful hand-made Venetian box that were numbered and signed by the author, who also happens to be on the Board of Directors as Chairman for the organization “Save Venice”. These special editions helped to support Save Venice, an American non-profit organization that has raised more than 25 million dollars to restore the art and architecture of Venice, Italy.
The book provides a very brief history lesson on some of the great American homes and how their design has been influenced by Italian style. The main focus of the book, however, is Matthew White’s own enduring personal passion for Italian style and how it has been incorporated into his own homes. The book is filled with stunning photography by Art Gray.
I hope you have enjoyed these few pages from one of my favorite books. It keeps me dreaming of Italia… Ciao!
