CELEBRATING THE ART OF SCRIPT AND CAROLYN QUARTERMAINE ON NATIONAL HANDWRITING DAY

There is a “holiday” for everything and today is officially National Handwriting Day.

French script cq3 from Carolyn. Quartermaine: I am particularly fond of work that creatively incorporates the art of penmanship. For many years I have admired the work of artist Carolyn Quartermaine, with a certain design crush on her “Script” fabric pattern. It’s an 18th century French style romantic design that many have tried to (unsuccessfully, in my opinion) replicate since its release many, many years ago. And although it has been around for quite some time, I never tire of it. Today seems like a most appropriate day to celebrate the art of lettering and the textile design of Carolyn Quartermaine. Given the fact that Carolyn has combined text with textiles her Script pattern is one definitely worth revisiting.

The Design Center at The Merchandise Mart | Carolyn Quartermaine:

I am a painter. The fabrics and designs are all distillations of the paintings and marks and explorations I make as an artist.   — Carolyn Quartermaine

There are a few chairs in this post that would be lovely to own. I think her script fabric enhances the chair in ways that any other pattern might not achieve.
    What a fun post.
