LUXURY IN TINY HOME LIVING BY JEFFREY DUNGAN

Since the summer I have been obsessing fantasizing about the idea of buying a tiny cottage located in Cape Cod. Maybe it’s a romantic notion but I’d love to enjoy the laid back life the Cape has to offer. Plus, wouldn’t it be great to say Mr. B and I are “bicoastal”? While browsing real estate listings online I have found plenty offered at fairly affordable prices. The only downside is that they usually require a lot of renovation. Given that we live in Southern California, I wouldn’t want to engage in a renovation project while permanently living clear across the country. Finding a cottage that is move in ready would be ideal and if it could be as stylish as the tiny home designs developed by Birmingham, Alabama architect Jeffrey Dungan I would be a happy camper! Jeffrey Dungan partnered with Clayton Building Group to create a series of five tiny home designs. The first prototype built, known as “Low Country” was unveiled in August 2016 at the Cashiers Designer Showcase in North Carolina. As you can imagine, it was an overwhelming hit among attendees at the event.

“Low Country” tiny home design by Jeffrey Dungan for Clayton Home Building.

The Low Country model has a beautiful rustic exterior featuring poplar bark siding with vertical ship lap. The roof is made of cedar shake and metal. Such attention to detail, both inside and out, brings luxury to tiny home living. It’s a far cry from most tiny homes that have a DIY look to them. tiny-home-entry-by-jeffrey-dungan-via-reviving-charm

The Low County model measures a mere 396 square feet and is offered at $96,000. It offers such an efficient use of space. What it lacks in square footage, it makes up in design and style. Let’s take a look inside….

Low County provides sleeping for 8, which includes 2 bunk beds, 2 in the master bedroom (large enough for a queen bed), 2 in a loft area and 2 on a fold out couch. I like the idea that a full bath is provided. I wouldn’t be happy about sharing it with 7 other people! Hmmm…maybe tiny home living isn’t for me after all!

With all kidding aside, I think this is the kind of vacation cottage I could get use to. Now only if I could have one built in Cape Cod…

This is perfectly charming! And even more so because my parents are thinking about retiring in something small like this in a few years to start out while searching for another property in Flordia. I’ll need to remember to pass this along to them! (By the way, I think saying “we’re bicoastal” would sound so sophisticated. Love it!)
