The Artwork of Jeremiah Goodman on Display

The New York Times recently called Jeremiah Goodman the “Rembrandt of Twentieth Century Homes”. I don’t disagree. In the 1940’s artist Jeremiah Goodman launched his career as a designer of print ads for the department store Lord & Taylor, but by the 1950’s he progressed to creating cover art and illustrations for premier design magazines such as Interior Design, Harper’s Bazaar, and Vogue. He eventually became legendary for his unique dreamy artistic style focusing on the interiors of the elite.

Artist Jeremiah Goodman

For the first time ever, the work of New Yorker Jeremiah Goodman is on display in Los Angeles at the West Hollywood Showroom of Dessin Fournier. Here’s a look at the opening reception.

The exhibit showcases 55 original gouache paintings from Goodman’s 70-year career as an illustrator and includes the homes of fashion designers James Galanos and Carolina Herrera, actress Greta Garbo, the Duchess of Windsor, and Diana Vreeland, to name a few. The exhibit is already taking place and continues through Friday, June 9, 2017. To make things even more exciting is the fact that many of the paintings on display have never been seen in public before.

Don’t worry, if you are unable to check out the exhibit in person then how about grabbing a copy of his book. It’s an oversized book that has graced my library since it was originally released several years ago. If you are interested in the work of Goodman, this book does not disappoint! I’m sure these ladies would agree…it looks like they’re oohing and ahhing over each page!
