Going Inside with Kenny Harris

I really enjoy drawings and paintings of interiors and last shared the work of the late artist and illustrator Jeremiah Goodman (1922-2017). So I was thrilled when I was introduced to the work of Kenny Harris, a Venice, California, artist who travels the world to paint interior and landscape paintings. His recent trip to Ireland was the inspiration for his most current works of art revealing interiors of ancient castles and grand country houses. The rooms are devoid of people allowing the viewer to focus on the light, space, shadow, and stillness of each space. His paintings are also thought-provoking allowing you to conjure up your own fanciful stories. I couldn’t help but wonder where did everyone go? Who lives here? How do they use these spaces? Would I use the spaces any differently if I was occupying them? (By the way, I do this will portrait paintings also – wondering what the subject may have been thinking as they sit for their portrait). So, let me introduce you to an array of work from Kenny Harris and go make up your own fanciful stories. If you choose to venture out of the confines of your own home during these crazy COVID times, you can see his work in person at the George Billis Gallery in Culver City (Los Angeles) until July 2 or in New York from July 14 – September 5, 2020.
