I took this picture while visiting Brookline, Massachusetts (a Boston suburb) on our trip to New England last Fall. When I took this picture I remember falling in love with everything about this house, including the black door. I didn’t notice the location of the mailbox slot until looking at the picture months after I took it. I never thought of putting a mailbox slot at the bottom of the door but it makes sense. It’s unobtrusive and if anyone tries to peek in they really won’t be able to see much. But I wonder if I would get tired of bending over each day to pick up mail scattered across the floor? I’m going to guess yes.

I hope you enjoy this picture as much as I do. I thought it was particularly appropriate for today since I like to consider Friday the “door to the weekend”. It’s a weekend full of possibility since Mr. B and I don’t actually have much planned. What about you?

Thankfully, I only have one thing on my calendar this weekend and that is to meet a friend at the Long Beach Aquarium with her active 5 year old twins. I don’t spend a lot of time around children so this should be quite the eye opening experience for me. I look forward to spending time with them and having fun but my only goal is to make sure they don’t get lost or go home scraped, bruised, or with any broken body parts. Sidenote: I love the look of a black door so much that I devoted an entire post to it. If you missed it you can check it out here.

I confess, I’ve never actually wanted a mail slot at the front door, mostly because I can envision someone putting something like a firecracker or lizard inside. This is crazy thinking since we live in a very safe and very friendly neighborhood. Still, I’m apparently paranoid about this ridiculous notion. I do love that door, especially the brick and stone facing on each step.
Enjoy your trip to the aquarium, good luck.

The mail slot is definitely a personal preference. I’m a bit paranoid too because unfortunately, even bad things happen in the best of neighborhoods. Have a great weekend.
