Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Today Mr. B and I fly off to San Francisco for a few days. While we are there we will be enjoying afternoon tea at the Fairmont. I couldn’t think of a more charming way to spend a few hours to pass the time and enjoy the niceties that the city has to offer. The Fairmont has been serving afternoon tea at the hotel since 1907 and I am glad we finally are taking an opportunity to enjoy their tea service. It will be a lovely escape from the hustle and bustle we will be experiencing outdoors.

These pictures remind me that gathering a few friends over for an afternoon of warm tea, delicious food and wonderful conversation is a great way to celebrate not only St. Patrick’s day, but any day. With the first day of Spring being just a few days away, it would be a wonderful reason to celebrate the new season amongst friends.  I might just have to start planning my next gathering.  How about you?  –XOXO, V.

When tea becomes ritual, it takes its place at the heart of our ability to see greatness in small things. Where is beauty to be found? In great things that, like everything else, are doomed to die, or in small things that aspire to nothing, yet know how to set a jewel of infinity in a single moment.  –Muriel Barbery, Author

I love afternoon tea, and have enjoyed it at a number of places in my city of Chicago (Langham, Penninsula, Drake hotels). I also try to fit it into travel plans; we’re going back to to the UK this summer, and afternoon tea will be on the itinerary at almost each city/village we travel to while traversing the English countryside up to the Highlands of Scotland.

Hi Nancy! Thanks for your comment. I enjoy tea also! And we have been trying to incorporate it into our travel plans more and more lately. It sounds like you have had it at some very lovely hotels. Isn’t it a wonderful little break in the day? Enjoy your trip this summer. It sounds wonderful. Hopefully I will get to read about it on your blog. Xoxo, V.

What a lovely table setting. I love the subtle green and white of the china and all the details remind me that spring is a few days away.
Enjoy your time in SF. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
