If you stick around my blog long enough, eventually you will learn that I am quite the Italophile. I have been very fortunate to visit such a beautiful country on numerous occasions, sometimes even a couple of times per year. However, due to some personal matters my trips to Italy have been on temporary hiatus.  I will return again…but for now I dream of Italy!

And if you follow me on Instagram you will notice that I posted a picture a few days ago of a vignette highlighting three stacked books, one of them being “Italy of my Dreams” authored by American interior designer Matthew White. I purchased the book many years ago and it still remains to be one of my favorites.

When the book was first published there were limited edition copies housed in a beautiful hand-made Venetian box that were numbered and signed by the author, who also happens to be on the Board of Directors as Chairman for the organization “Save Venice”.  These special editions helped to support Save Venice, an American non-profit organization that has raised more than 25 million dollars to restore the art and architecture of Venice, Italy.

The book provides a very brief history lesson on some of the great American homes and how their design has been influenced by Italian style. The main focus of the book, however, is Matthew White’s own enduring personal passion for Italian style and how it has been incorporated into his own homes. The book is filled with stunning photography by Art Gray.  italy of my dreams reviving charmitaly of my dreams reviving charmitaly of my dreams reviving charmitaly of my dreams reviving charm

I hope you have enjoyed these few pages from one of my favorite books. It keeps me dreaming of Italia… Ciao!

I have never heard of this book and it sounds like a must for my collection. Like you, I’m enamored with Italy–the style, the culture, the whole vibe keeps us returning. This summer we will be on the Amalfi Coast (for the first time), returning to Siena and then on to Lake Como. Here’s to your next trip to Italy in the near future.
Your blog is beautiful and I see we enjoy many of the same inspirations.
    Have a wonderful day!
    xx, Heather

Have fun on your Italian vacation this summer. You have picked some wonderful areas of the country to visit. You won’t be disappointed.
Thanks for your comments on the blog. So glad you stopped by today and are following along. It’s nice to “meet up” with people with similar interests!

What a treasure of a book. Were you able to get one of the limited editions? The pictures you’ve shared from the book make me want to see a copy and possibly purchase it for my own library. Books like this are pieces of art. What fun. Lucky you to have visited Italy so many times. As an Anglophile, I’ve been to England many times. That is probably why I’ve yet to visit Italy. 🙂

      Hi Karen –
Unfortunately, I didn’t get one of the limited editions but it is still beautiful nonetheless.

Your last comment is funny, I often joke with my husband about not visiting more countries because we always go back to Italy! I guess when you find a place that you really love and inspires you, repeat trips are a must! I have only been to England once and that was many years ago. When I turned 21 I went to England and France. It was a wonderful trip but definitely once I would love to do-over as a more mature adult.
