Laundering in the Lap of Luxury

Mr. B and I are on our way home today after spending several days in San Francisco. The fun is over and now the chore of unpacking and washing will begin. The laundry room is a great space to splurge and have fun with and that’s something designer Dina Bandman embraced when designing a luxurious laundry room for last year’s San Francisco’s annual Decorator Showhouse.

Let’s take a tour, shall we…

I have to admit that the picture above doesn’t reflect how beautiful the flush mounted ceiling light fixtures really are. The fixtures are from Waterworks and are part of their Marlon collection. Here’s a closeup from their catalog.

Dina Bandman chose de Gournay’s hand-painted “Thousand Li” wallpaper in the delft blue “Rivers and Mountains” pattern to serve as a beautiful backdrop. Here’s a closeup of part of the pattern.

The acrylic rods were sourced from TAP Plasticsin Los Angeles for under 30 bucks. You’d never know that they were so affordable because they look like a million bucks. They were a great choice due to the translucent quality. A metal rod would definitely not have provided the same effect.

Bandman used Artistic Tile’s Sinuous Calcutta Gold stone mosaic tile along the backside of one wall. This is a great choice since you wouldn’t want to risk having hanging damp clothing damage wallpaper. Plus, it adds another interesting element to the space.

The countertops and shelving are quartz from Cambria’s marble collection. The shelving brackets were custom made by a silversmith based on a design Bandman seen in a Paris bistro. Paris always inspires!

The laundry sink is from Kohler from their Iron/Tones collection, as is the faucet.

If you are the owner of an adorable pup (or two) and have a bit of extra space in your laundry room then why not add a dog washing station to help you keep the canines clean. A dedicated space just to wash your dogs really is a luxury!

Bandman did not overlook any detail in this room. I love the fact that she used gaufraged (embossed) leather to line the interior of this top drawer. It’s these type of elegant details that really make a space special.

Top dogs, top models…I think this pair approves of Bandman’s design!

Dina Bandman will be participating again in this year’s Showhouse. I can’t wait to see her design this year.

How has your week been? I’ve been in and out of the office this week so these past five days have really flown by. In lieu of a single topic post to end the week, I thought I would put together a random mix of things that caught my attention over the last few days. Enjoy…

Is there anything that caught your attention this week? Do tell…

  1. I love the classic exterior of this Brookline, Massachusetts estate known as “Woodland Manor”. The home and its 14 acres can be yours for a mere $90 million.
  2. Great architecture (with amazing floors) + furniture with clean lines = a dream dining room. Plus, the fact that this is a room located in Milan, Italy is definitely a plus.
  3. My short bob with portions of it dyed whimsical fun colors is long gone. I am sporting a new shorter style that I’ve received so many compliments on. It’s easier to show off a great pair of earrings with short hair and I love these with their great geometric design. I might go on a shopping spree for some new accessories this weekend.
  4. I didn’t originally believe Mr. B when he told me that Home Depot now carries furniture. I haven’t seen it in person but their La Petite Barrel Chair is a very affordable classic design. This blush color would look great in my office but it also comes in a natural color that can work in almost any room.
  5. The amazing Bulgari Resort Dubai featured in this month’s Italian issue of Elle Decor shows off some of the hotel’s most beautiful spaces. As a lover of black and white photography, it was this image that captured my heart.
  6. Lipstick by Yves St. Laurent has been my guilty pleasure for many, many years. Their little gold tubes line my makeup drawer like soldiers standing at attention. I’ve recently switched over to using their Tatouge Couture Liquid Matte Lip Stain. It’s very long lasting and worth every penny. I’ve tried it in 2 colors and just ordered 4 more because I love it that much!  My secret to a successful application: Use the flat end of the applicator to first line your lips then fill in by slowly building up coverage. Applying too much too soon will result in a streaky effect so layering on color really is best. When I try new makeup, I like to buy it through Sephora because of their generous return policy but I will be reordering my favorite colors directly through YSLso they can engrave my lipstick tube for free. They allow up to 14 characters and will also engrave mascara tubes and perfume bottles.
  7. I recently read somewhere that you shouldn’t have more than 3 pieces in a room from the same store. The layered look of this room recently featured on One Kings Lane definitely proves that a room is much more interesting when the furniture and accessories were collected over time. This helps to prevent a room from looking like everything was purchased straight out of a catalog. Of course, there are always exceptions to every rule.

After a renovation four years ago, Dominique Chevalier and her nine-year-old daughter were able to move into their beautiful apartment located in Lyon, France. It incorporates everything you would expect from a classic 1851 French apartment: high ceilings, tall windows, parquet floors, and intricate millwork. It is a space of grandeur but fit for modern living. It’s definitely the best of both worlds.

A Beautiful Bluff Park Bathroom

I love a beautiful bathroom. In fact, I’ve highlighted several beautiful baths in my “Sunday Spa Day” posts. Today’s beautiful bathroom is from a home that is currently for sale in the affluent Bluff Park neighborhood of Long Beach, California. It is situated on a block full of historic homes in a variety of architectural styles with great charm and character. I wouldn’t need an excuse move…I would buy it for the bathroom alone. Its’ size is opulent but the design is classic. Plus, the home is situated within a very short walk to the beach, which is is another definite plus.long beach bathroom via reviving charmA room like this commands a beautiful chandelier in place of the naked light bulb. Replacing the light fixture would be my first order of business. I’m thinking a nice chaise lounge would also be a great addition to this space. The space has heated floors, which is a great touch given the size of the room.bathroom design reviving charmI haven’t been shy about sharing my love of a freestanding tub. I can already see myself soaking in the tub while enjoying a gentle breeze coming through the window and the peaceful sound of rustling tree leaves. That’s my kind of heaven…

Do you ever come across an image that stops you in your tracks? This Mountain Brook, Alabama living room of Interior Designer Betsy Brown did just

Shortly after seeing this one image that captivated me, I received my issue of Milieu Magazine where her entire home was featured. Talk about coincidence! Her home is a wonderful mix of classic design with chic, modern flair set in neutral tones. I love homes that can successfully combine these elements while still providing a sense of warmth that makes you feel comfortable within the space. For today, enjoy a tour of Betsey Brown’s home….I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. art-at-the-home-of-betsy-brown-interior-design-revivingcharm_combetsy-brown-interior-design-revivingcharm_com-4bbetsy-brown-interior-design-revivingcharm_com-4abetsy-brown-interior-design-revivingcharm_com-3betsy-brown-interior-design-revivingcharm_combetsy-brown-interior-design-revivingcharm_com-2betsy-brown-interior-design-revivingcharm_com-1
