Glorious Green for St. Patrick’s Day

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! My weekend is off to a great start with a party that Mr. B and I will be attending tonight. I’m not Irish but every year I make sure to wear something green to commemorate the holiday. This year it will be an emerald green silk blouse. Will you be wearing something green today?

May the Irish hills caress you. May her lakes and rivers bless you. May the luck of the Irish enfold you. May the blessings of Saint Patrick behold you.  –Irish Blessing

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, I’ve compiled a few images for a quick post featuring the color of the day for your viewing pleasure.

NATURE INSPIRES

As I write this post I am sitting at my desk looking out the window and admiring my neighbor’s lovely tree. My neighbor is a sweet lady and her and I have swapped comments on a couple of occasions making note of how beautiful the tree is. Unfortunately, we have no idea what kind it actually is. This wasn’t my original post for today but sometimes there is nothing more inspiring than Mother Nature herself and you just have to go with it. I spent some time gathering a few other images that  inspired me today… I can only hope they have the same effect on you!  —xoox, V.

CELEBRATING COLOR: GREEN

I love saturated color and commend those brave souls that can work their magic and incorporate such a bold hue like green into their decor.  I play it safe and have the tenancy to gravitate toward more neutral colors when it comes to my own home. It think it’s because I like the flexibility of being able to swap out things when I get tired of them…which is often. But for now, let’s celebrate the color green. I actually love the color green and will continue to admire it from afar…

He had that curious love of green, which in individuals is always the sign of a subtle artistic temperament, and in nations is said to denote a laxity, if not a decadence of morals.”  — Oscar Wilde

Sometimes you just need to go for it and a library is a great room where you can have fun and be experimental with design. I love the hint of leopard pattern making this room a successful mix of classic and modern design.

If you need to ease your way into incorporating such a bold color then try using it as an accent.

A glossy tile laid in a herringbone pattern will always catch my attention.

This traditional interior feels fresh and modern with a hint of red thrown into the mix.

Mother nature is always the best inspiration. I want to assume it is what dictated the choice of this stairway treatment.

Green doors with beautiful iron detailing creates a wonderful first impression. It makes me wonder if the interiors are equally as charming.

This is a successful design where green is used as a pop of color to make a bold and classy statement. It’s definitely a place I would love to pull up a chair at.

What do you think about the color green. Love it or leave it?

CREATE YOUR OWN: SHAMROCK CORSAGE

I absolutely love the color green. Each year in honor of St. Patrick’s Day I trade in my favorite nail color (currently a very sheer pink, “Mademoiselle” by Essi) for a bright metallic green.  I sport the green for one day only and my short manicured nails provide just enough of the vibrant hue to ensure that I don’t pinched! This year (before I realized I would be going on vacation) I was trying to find a creative way to incorporate the color green into my St. Patrick’s Day wardrobe without having to buy a whole new outfit (although when is that ever actually a bad thing?). Then I remembered seeing pictures of Kate Middleton sporting a shamrock corsage. What better way to incorporate the color green while making a stylish fashion statement After all, if its good enough for royalty, its good enough for me!

You have a few days left until St. Patrick’s Day. How do you plan on incorporating green into your wardrobe on St. Patrick’s Day? If you have time and are crafty enough, I suggest making your own shamrock pin. -XOXO, V.

Sometimes nature, in whatever form it may be, is the best inspiration. There is definitely truth to the phrase “you never know when inspiration will strike“. I recently came across this painting from Canadian artist Caroline Ji  and somehow the brilliant yellow rose blooms against the moody dark background inspired me to create a gallery of images based on the the artist’s original painting.  So for today, enjoy these images featuring the bold color combination of yellow and green. Interestingly, it’s a color combination I am seeing lots more of since drafting this post. Enjoy!
