Buongiorno! Mr. B and I have been enjoying travels through Northern Italy. Traveling during this time of year is great because the crowds generally die down a bit and the weather is usually more tolerable. Unfortunately, we couldn’t escape the higher temperatures and it’s been in the mid 80 degrees in Turin, where we are currently staying. Another advantage for traveling during this time of year is that the prices are typically more reasonable. For me, that means hoping to buy more souvenirs with the money we save.

I took thousands of pictures on our Italian trip last year and realize that I never shared any with you. I recently went through all of last year’s pictures and created this small photo montage highlighting the architectural features, design details and the natural beauty that capture the essence of Italy.

I have one very special post scheduled while I’m away and I promise to do a recap post of my current trip when I’m back. I’m also looking forward to posting more regularly. Fall is approaching and I’m feeling inspired. In the meantime, follow along on Instagram.

Dear Readers….I’m back!

I was away from my computer for longer than anticipated but I am officially back from my unintentional hiatus. What started by taking “a few days off” turned into weeks. Then I realized I had to deal with a technical glitch that required me to move my domain name from one host to another that resulted in an additional delay. It was actually a blessing in disguise because that had been something on my “to-do” list for quite some time. Sometimes life forces you to tackle certain things and this was one of those times. Has this ever happened to you!!??. I’m glad that I had to deal with the issue because it provided a wonderful opportunity to clean up a few things on the site.

One of the changes I made is to incorporate a new feature on the sidebar called “From the Office of Reviving Charm”. It will feature something currently on display on my office bulletin board or in my office. I’ve occasionally shared a few images but decided to give it a permanent home on the sidebar. Be sure to click the new image when it’s posted on the sidebar because it will allow you to view a larger image as well as read about any comments I might have about it.

I always loved the art of collage and creating mood boards so when I had a chance to design my studio/office, I knew I had to incorporate an extra large bulletin board that would allow me to pin bits of inspiration gathered from here and there. The images change periodically; I’ll pin new images or sometimes just rearrange existing ones. Whatever strikes my fancy…

Here is a section currently on display. It includes a small 6″x6″ piece of art I created to post among various black and white images. During the time I’ve been away from my computer, I had the opportunity to start painting again. It had been a long while since I picked up a paintbrush but I vow to do it more often. What do you vow to do more often?

This is the end of my Public Service Announcement. Tomorrow I’ll be posting about a designer I’m currently crushing on and featuring some photos from their portfolio.

Glorious Green for St. Patrick’s Day

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! My weekend is off to a great start with a party that Mr. B and I will be attending tonight. I’m not Irish but every year I make sure to wear something green to commemorate the holiday. This year it will be an emerald green silk blouse. Will you be wearing something green today?

May the Irish hills caress you. May her lakes and rivers bless you. May the luck of the Irish enfold you. May the blessings of Saint Patrick behold you.  –Irish Blessing

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, I’ve compiled a few images for a quick post featuring the color of the day for your viewing pleasure.

Happy Valentines Day! Mr. B and I have never really celebrated Valentine’s Day and this year is no exception. But I will admit that I am using the day as an excuse to wear the red lipstick! A perfect pout is always in order for Valentine’s Day…and every day.

I wish you the best for a day filled with love and lots of kisses. From my heart to yours…XOXO.

How has your week been? I’ve been in and out of the office this week so these past five days have really flown by. In lieu of a single topic post to end the week, I thought I would put together a random mix of things that caught my attention over the last few days. Enjoy…

Is there anything that caught your attention this week? Do tell…

friday favorites 3_9_18 on Reviving Charm blog

  1. I love the classic exterior of this Brookline, Massachusetts estate known as “Woodland Manor”. The home and its 14 acres can be yours for a mere $90 million.
  2. Great architecture (with amazing floors) + furniture with clean lines = a dream dining room. Plus, the fact that this is a room located in Milan, Italy is definitely a plus.
  3. My short bob with portions of it dyed whimsical fun colors is long gone. I am sporting a new shorter style that I’ve received so many compliments on. It’s easier to show off a great pair of earrings with short hair and I love these with their great geometric design. I might go on a shopping spree for some new accessories this weekend.
  4. I didn’t originally believe Mr. B when he told me that Home Depot now carries furniture. I haven’t seen it in person but their La Petite Barrel Chair is a very affordable classic design. This blush color would look great in my office but it also comes in a natural color that can work in almost any room.
  5. The amazing Bulgari Resort Dubai featured in this month’s Italian issue of Elle Decor shows off some of the hotel’s most beautiful spaces. As a lover of black and white photography, it was this image that captured my heart.
  6. Lipstick by Yves St. Laurent has been my guilty pleasure for many, many years. Their little gold tubes line my makeup drawer like soldiers standing at attention. I’ve recently switched over to using their Tatouge Couture Liquid Matte Lip Stain. It’s very long lasting and worth every penny. I’ve tried it in 2 colors and just ordered 4 more because I love it that much!  My secret to a successful application: Use the flat end of the applicator to first line your lips then fill in by slowly building up coverage. Applying too much too soon will result in a streaky effect so layering on color really is best. When I try new makeup, I like to buy it through Sephora because of their generous return policy but I will be reordering my favorite colors directly through YSLso they can engrave my lipstick tube for free. They allow up to 14 characters and will also engrave mascara tubes and perfume bottles.
  7. I recently read somewhere that you shouldn’t have more than 3 pieces in a room from the same store. The layered look of this room recently featured on One Kings Lane definitely proves that a room is much more interesting when the furniture and accessories were collected over time. This helps to prevent a room from looking like everything was purchased straight out of a catalog. Of course, there are always exceptions to every rule.

Happy New Year! Happy 2018!  I don’t know about you, but I have the tendency to sometimes over think things. It’s a characteristic of mine that I’ve learned to accept as both a blessing and a curse. I had been going back and forth about “just the right” post to share with you today until I had an “ah-ha moment”. I realized that my inspiration for today’s post had been staring me in the face (literally) all along. I forgot about the small piece of black and white paper I had pinned to the massive bulletin board I made to cover one wall in my office (yes, I’m crafty like that). I was adding new images to my bulletin board a few days ago when I came across an image I had previously pinned up. The casual script font simply reads “It’s going to be a beautiful year”. In that moment I realized that this uncomplicated, straightforward message summed up all that I am wishing for you and me in 2018. I have a few special things planned for the year ahead and look forward to sharing them with you. I wish you the very best for the upcoming year and hope your 2018 is filled with lots of fun, laughter, and love. Let’s have a beautiful year together!

All the best,

New Year 2018 great year_Reviving Charmoffice of reviving charm

What do you have planned this evening? This post may be full of glitz and glamour but this New Year’s Eve I will actually be spending a quiet evening alone with Mr. B in San Luis Obispo (“SLO”). After our San Diego trip last weekend we stopped home for a couple of days before heading north to the town that even Oprah has called “America’s happiest city”. And earlier this year it also ranked number 5 on National Geographic’s top 25 list of happiest cities in the U.S. I’m glad to see that several other California towns also made the list.

I do hope you are able to look back on 2017 fondly. I can honestly say that it was a good year for us. I must admit that one of the highlights of my year was planning an Italian vacation with Mr. B and actually making it back after a bit of a hiatus. By the way, I still owe you a post about our Italian adventures. I look forward to sharing that with you soon…it’s hard to condense over 5,000 pictures into a couple of posts so if there is something you are particularly interested in, please drop me a note or leave a comment on this post. I love hearing from readers.

I can’t end this post without thanking you for hanging out with me here on Reviving Charm. I appreciate you stopping by and I hope we can continue to inspire each other in the upcoming new year. I am confident that something beautiful lies ahead…

All the best…

Happy New Years Eve 2017 from Reviving Charm

I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old, familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet
The words repeat
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!
― Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Greetings from San Diego! Mr. B and I will be enjoying a nice dinner for two tonight and joining my entire family tomorrow for Christmas morning. I hope your days are filled with love, laughter, and moments that create fond memories for the years to come. All the best for a very Merry Christmas.

Thanksgiving 2017 – Dinner for Two

This wasn’t intended to be my original post. In fact, I started drafting today’s post last week but I continued to make revision after revision. For some reason, I had a hard time finalizing my message; it never felt quite right. Now I know why. Keep reading…

Mr. B and I made plans to be in San Francisco to celebrate Thanksgiving and enjoy the long holiday weekend. It’s one of our favorite cities and it feels like a home away from home, of sorts. I even mentioned the trip in my last post. But life has a way of throwing curve balls and last night I canceled our flight, hotel, and all dinner reservations due to a family emergency involving Mr. B. He is still recuperating and, thankfully, he will be fine. But naturally, after a trip to the ER and an overnight stay in the hospital, we decided that it was best to stay put, stay home, and have a quiet evening for two. This can pose a challenge for someone like me who doesn’t cook. Given absolutely no notice, I had to become resourceful and quickly scrambled to order up dinner. I even purchased a floral cornucopia centerpiece from our local gourmet market. I reaped the benefits of a last minute purchase because I scored the flowers on sale for 20 bucks. Well, $19.99 to be exact. Once the meal was taken care of I quickly turned to the linen closet and decided to keep it simple by pulling out a fresh white tablecloth, napkins, and straw placements. In just a few short minutes I notice that the makings of a casual tablescape were falling into place nicely.Thanksgiving centerpiece_Reviving Charm 1

I was saddened at the fact that my husband became ill but I am very grateful that matters weren’t worse. I am thankful that he was home relatively quickly, although not quick enough if you ask him, I’m sure. I am also very fortunate to have good medical insurance and have some of the very best specialists available to Mr. B. One doctor in particular is someone that people travel the world to come see. We are fortunate in that we are just a few zip codes and short car ride away from him. Although it’s not without its issues, access to good healthcare is something I never take for granted and I was quickly reminded of that yesterday after overhearing a conversation between an older woman and hospital staff discussing arrangements on how she would pay for her hospital visit, which turned out to be her second visit in just a few short months. The women had no real source of income, no job, and was having to apply for government assistance.Thanksgiving centerpiece_Reviving Charm

If I have to leave you with anything today let it be a lesson in gratitude. Life has a tendency of shaking things up every now and then. As difficult as it may be, you just have to accept it, embrace it, and make the very best of what it has to offer. Trust me, I know first hand that it’s something easier said than done but do take time to appreciate the moments in life and all the moments within the moments. After all, each day does really offer us the gift of being a special occasion.

A special note was tucked into a small envelope waiting to be read by Mr. B.

I am happy to be surrounded by wonderful people who love and support me dearly (YT and MJ…you both mean the world to me). I am also thankful for my readers because I know you have lots of options for reading material but you manage to routinely visit Reviving Charm. Thank you for your readership and continued support of this site. It’s very much appreciated. Just don’t forget to tell your friends about me. I always love new readers!

All the best to you and yours now and always…Vanessa.

P.S. Thanks for letting me get a little personal with you today.
