HAPPY NEW YEAR’S DAY 2018

Happy New Year! Happy 2018!  I don’t know about you, but I have the tendency to sometimes over think things. It’s a characteristic of mine that I’ve learned to accept as both a blessing and a curse. I had been going back and forth about “just the right” post to share with you today until I had an “ah-ha moment”. I realized that my inspiration for today’s post had been staring me in the face (literally) all along. I forgot about the small piece of black and white paper I had pinned to the massive bulletin board I made to cover one wall in my office (yes, I’m crafty like that). I was adding new images to my bulletin board a few days ago when I came across an image I had previously pinned up. The casual script font simply reads “It’s going to be a beautiful year”. In that moment I realized that this uncomplicated, straightforward message summed up all that I am wishing for you and me in 2018. I have a few special things planned for the year ahead and look forward to sharing them with you. I wish you the very best for the upcoming year and hope your 2018 is filled with lots of fun, laughter, and love. Let’s have a beautiful year together!

All the best,
From the office of Reviving Charm…

It’s October.

We’re been back in Milan which turns out to be the last leg of our Italian journey. It’s sad to think that our long overdue two week trip is winding down. We’re not even home yet and we’re already talking about our next visit. Today is actually our last day before catching a Lufthansa flight home to California. We’ve had no real plans for today other than to spend it wandering the city taking in the sights and sounds. We’ve stumbled upon some great new shops, restaurants, and sites. I’m doing some last minute shopping and making sure I even get to enjoy a farewell gelato. When I’m back home I plan to prepare a recap post of our trip. However, please be patient for it since I’ve taken close to 5,000 pictures (so far) that I’ll need to sort through first. For today, enjoy a couple of scenes I’ve captured around Milan that celebrate the Fall season. Ciao…

I cannot endure to waste anything so precious as autumnal sunshine by staying in the house. So I have spent almost all the daylight hours in the open air. –Nathaniel Hawthorne

Happy Friday: The Door to the Weekend

door to the weekend Reviving Charm quote

Happy Friday! I like to think of Friday as the door to the weekend; a door that leads to the opportunity for a little fun. What do you have planned? June gloom may have set in but it’s not going to dampen my mood for the weekend. I hope to be productive with some home projects that I keep putting off (i.e. the seaside guest bedroom…I know, I know, it’s taking forever), do research for a couple of upcoming vacations, sort through pictures I took yesterday to share with you for an upcoming post, and get outside for a bit. However, I do have to fit in a little bit of time for work to prepare for an important presentation this upcoming Monday night. Wish me luck. One thing I know for sure is at 5 pm today, when the proverbial whistle blows, I will be smiling from ear to ear….let the weekend begin!

Happy Friday

happy friday simply charming Reviving Charm 1Happy Friday! What do you have planned for this Memorial Day weekend? It’s the unofficial start of summer and normally I would try to take advantage of the extended weekend for a long weekend getaway. However, given the fact that I spent most of this week in Las Vegas for work, I am looking forward to being home with the occasional trip out for a nice lunch or quick shopping trip. Spending a bit of time outdoors would also be nice given that the high is supposed to be around 70 degrees here at our seaside ranch home. No, the photos above our not our home, but just some beautiful inspiration to get us all in the mood for summer. I also plan to work on some upcoming posts to get back on track and keep you company. After all, I’ve missed you! summer quote via Reviving Charm 1

Kindness Is Always in Style

Yesterday was Administrative Professionals Day. Did you do anything for your staff or were you treated to something special? As a way of saying “thank you” for all my staff’s hard work and helping make my job a little bit easier there were several treats arranged for them throughout the day. One of them included a delivery of beautiful flowers. My regular florist couldn’t deliver to the office as early in the morning as I had hoped and I did not want them delivered a day before. I opted to reschedule some dinner plans in order to pick up the flowers myself the night before. I’ve used my florist for many years and when they heard of my dilemma, they offered to make a special arrangement for me to stop by after normal business hours to pick up the floral arrangements myself. It was a wonderful gesture, an act of kindness, and fabulous customer service….which reminded me of the many reasons I continue to be a loyal customer. When I got home I carefully unloaded the flowers only to have to reload them in the morning. I also got up extra early yesterday morning to allow time to pick up some breakfast treats and get into the office before anyone else. I wanted to make sure each arrangement was placed perfectly on the recipients desk so they had a pretty surprise to look at first thing when they walked into the office. What they didn’t know about was all the behind the scenes activity that took place to make it all happen. Hopefully, I made it look effortless.

When I loaded the flowers into my car I couldn’t help but notice that they matched the red leather interior perfectly!

To put it simple: “Treat others as you would want to be treated”.  Words to live by. If you search the internet you can find countless quotes about kindness. Here are just a few that I wanted to highlight for you today.

Kindness is more than deeds, it is an attitude, an expression, a look, a touch. It is anything that lifts another person.  –Plato

The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the greatest intention.  –Kahlil Gibran

Kindness. One of the greatest gifts you can bestow upon another. If someone is in need, lend them a helping hand. Do not wait for a thank you. True kindness lies within the act of giving without the expectation of something in return.

Kindness is behaving in a way that makes people feel good when they are around you.

I couldn’t end this post without specifically mentioning my florist, White House Flowers. I couldn’t have pulled this off without their assistance. The owner, Mary, and her assistant Fernando always take great care of me and always remember my preferences.

If you are in need of a florist in Southern California, then definitely give them a try.  They really care about their customers, provide the freshest flowers and offer great customer service. Don’t forget to tell them that Vanessa sent you!

HAPPY FRIDAY

I love, love, love my job but I’ve had a challenging last couple of days due to major deadlines and coordinating efforts. I keep telling myself to “keep smiling” and stay positive. It’s interesting how a smile on your face can change your whole attitude. Which reminds me….I want to book a teeth whitening appointment with my dentist so I can continue to be proud of showing off my beautiful pearly whites! Thanks Mom for braces as a teenager!

By the way, this isn’t a picture of me but I do love how contagious this girl’s smile is. No matter what’s going on in your life right now, remember to keep a happy face. After all, there is always something to smile about! Happy Weekend 🙂

HAPPY MLK DAY

Happy Monday! I hope you had a fabulous weekend. Mr. B and I took advantage of the long holiday weekend by hitting the road and driving a few hours from home to visit the charming towns of Montecito and Santa Barbara. We had a wonderful time but will be heading home today. I’m glad I was able to relax before my long day back at work tomorrow; I anticipate a very long, at least 15 hour day. I see at least two cups of cappuccino in my future tomorrow morning.

While many folks have today off from work, lets not lose sight of the holiday with a great quote from Martin Luther King, Jr….

HAPPY FRIDAY

Happy Friday! I can’t believe that this is the last weekend before Christmas. I have lots to accomplish this weekend including finalizing the Christmas dinner menu, figuring out a Christmas dinner table centerpiece and putting the finishing touches on our holiday decorating. This weekend I also plan to hang the new mirror we bought a few weeks ago to put over the living room fireplace. I am in major holiday prep mode and I am really excited to check everything off my list.

When I haven’t been thinking about Christmas preparations I have been dreaming about Santa Barbara.  Planning a trip to Santa Barbara has been on my mind lately so sharing this picture of a beautiful home located in the neighboring community of Montecito seemed perfect for today’s post. Plus, I couldn’t resist sharing a picture with a great vintage car in its pristine “holiday red” paint job. It’s quintessential California cool.

Always remember to fall asleep with a dream and wake up with a purpose.

HAPPY FRIDAY

In the United States, Labor Day weekend has always been considered the unofficial end to Summer. I am sure many will be taking advantage of the long weekend to head out of town for their last Summer vacation before Fall rolls around. Mr. B and I had a crazy week so we have planned to stay home and stay local. Living in Southern California means having access to lots within a short driving distance from just about anywhere. I plan to do a little bit of shopping to take advantage of all the Labor Day sales. I am also looking forward to finishing a couple of DIY projects. If all is successful I will be sure to share them with you in the future. Wish me luck! What are your plans for this lovely weekend?
