Enduring Style: Gucci Horsebit Loafers

With the blazing heat we’ve had in Southern California it’s almost hard to imagine that Fall is just around the corner. But the upcoming change of season has me already thinking about Fall fashion. I don’t do many fashion related posts (do you want the same, more or less?) but I love the classics and when it comes to enduring style, nothing beats a pair of Gucci Horsebit Loafers. They are perfect for any season, unless you’re like me and bought a pair in suede. They suit both men and women and can be easily transitioned from day to night. It is an extremely versatile shoe; I know no other than can look great both in the boardroom and at the beach. It’s a shoe that’s been around for over 60 years and has achieved iconic status. In fact, Gucci held an exhibit at their museum in Florence, Italy (now temporarily closed) in 2013 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Gucci loafer. It even has a place at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.

There is variation on a theme from time to time (I still can’t get over the mule or slipper styles…not a fan) but the classic 1953 Gucci Horsebit Loafer is a wardrobe staple. A quality shoe that is something worth investing in since they can provide you with a lifetime of wear.

The horsebit loafer has lived many lives since its creation 60 years ago, earning itself an important place as a wardrobe staple for both men and women alike. The double-ring and bar motif taken from equestrian hardware remains an icon linking Gucci’s unique history with its modern-day attitude. — Frida Giannini, former Gucci Creative Director

In the world of eyewear, the word “iconic” can only lend itself to a very few brands, but every list includes Italian eyewear designer Persol. The company began in 1917; there is something to be said for longevity, don’t you think? Some of their classics have been around since the 1950’s but the company has realized that every now and then it’s time to update your look. In doing so, Persol teamed up with Scott Eastwood (yes, Clint Eastwood’s son) in their Spring campaign known as “Meet the New Generation” captured by French photographer Mathieu Cesar. However, I thought this would be a great group of images to share with you today, National Sunglasses Day. Sunglasses are not just fashionable, they are important to protect their eyes from long- and short-term damage from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays.

Enjoy the ultra cool behind-the-scenes images from the photoshoot and be sure to check back later for a more personal post on sunglasses, including a look at how I display my very own collection.

Although many (most) of my posts have been geared toward women, I can’t forget to acknowledge my male readers. I would love to acknowledge Father’s Day with a bit of masculine design and style. So kick up your heels and enjoy your Sunday. All the best for a very delightful day!
