Ah, Labor Day weekend….the unofficial end to summer in the United States. All I can say is “So Long, Summer ’17” because I have been long awaiting Fall. I am already planning a few upcoming Fall posts but for now, let’s just savor every little bit of summer that’s left while it’s still here. And it’s definitely making its’ presence know with temperatures expected over 100 degrees today! I will admit to feeling a little bit guilty about posting pretty pictures while many in Texas are dealing with tragedy and the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. But hopefully, Reviving Charm can serve as a happy distraction to those who need it.
I’m glad it’s Friday but where did the week go?
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and find a way to stay cool. I have a busy weekend filled with home projects (installing a new light fixture), breakfast with a friend, a neighborhood party and running errands in between. I don’t have time to go to the spa but am hoping I can find time to do a facial and manicure at home. A mini spa day (or few hours) at home would be a relaxing treat.
Enjoy your weekend and enjoy all the little things life has to offer… xoxo, v.

Happy Friday! It’s also the last day of a week dedicated to fun summertime posts. A little bit of everything was covered: decor, style, and entertaining. Today we’re keep it cool and taking a virtual dip in the pool. Let’s enjoy some poolside living today, shall we?
When Mr. B and I were searching for a home 3 years ago I remember our realtor asking us how we felt about a home with a pool. Our response was simple: If it’s the right house and it doesn’t have a pool that’s fine. But if a pool comes with the house, we will consider it an added bonus. We looked at a countless number of houses but ended up purchasing our seaside ranch home…without a pool. I admit to daydreaming from time to time of having our own private pool…a saltwater pool. After swimming in a saltwater pool you’ll never want to go back to a chlorinated waters again. There’s no chlorine smell and it’s easier on the hair and skin. Plus, you can float in the water easier…a fun, added bonus. The temperatures are rising out of control here in Southern California so I thought I would finish off the week by offering up something cool and refreshing to look at hoping to distract from the sweltering heat. And with the weekend quickly approaching in just a matter of a few hours its time to let the daydreaming begin. I don’t know what your daydreams look like but right now mine look something like this…

We are in full swing of summer and I am devoting a full week toward some fun summertime posts. Let’s get started, shall we….
The Summer 2016 collection from Dolce & Gabbana includes the Italian is Love campaign where citrus takes over part of the collection featuring clothing, shoes and accessories in the bold lemon pattern (shown left). I immediately became excited for the summer season after seeing the release of this vibrant collection a few months back at the Dolce and Gabbana boutique. The fact that I was looking forward to Summer is still shocking and worth mentioning because it is actually my very least favorite time of the year. I think seeing the beautiful limoni print must have brought on the anticipation and promise of summer fun.
A fresh squeezed glass of lemonade is the classic All-American summertime beverage and I love the idea of hosting a gathering in the garden with a pitcher of lemonade. If you plan on hosting a garden party, or any other summertime event for that matter, why not serve up a few glasses of refreshing lemonade, or better yet, a glass of lavender lemonade.
The Meyer Lemon tree we bought last summer is starting to fruit. Lemons have budded (shown left) and I check on them frequently to see how they are progressing. It’s a simple pleasure but something I take great pride in. I feel like such a proud mama! When our lemons are ready I will definitely be giving the following lavender lemonade recipe from Victoria Magazine a try. It’s always so rewarding to use something from your own garden and this simple recipe is something I think I can manage.
- When sugar is melted, remove from heat, and add 3 tablespoons dried culinary lavender. Let stand for at least 10 minutes (The flavor will intensify the longer the lavender steep.) Let cool completely.
- Strain mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into an airtight container, and refrigerate. Store, refrigerated, in an airtight container for up to 3 weeks.
Summer brings out bright vivid hues but you can also capture the spirit of the season by pairing up sandy tones with bright white to create a chic summer vibe. I absolutely love the crisp, clean look of white, beiges, and tans blended together to create a bit of summer flair. When neutrals are done right they can provide just as much impact as a dose of color. Stay chic and stay cool this holiday weekend. —xoxo, V.
Given that’s it’s National Sunglasses Day I thought it would be appropriate, and kind of fun, to provide you with a glimpse of my own sunglass collection and a peek inside the seaside California home shared with Mr. B.
Anyone who knows me well enough has learned that no matter what time of year it is, I don’t go anywhere without a pair of oversized pair of black sunglasses in hand. They have turned into my fashion trademark and are a wardrobe staple. I own multiple pairs of black sunglasses and most of them are corralled in a beautiful vintage bowl I purchased online from High Street Market that sits on our bedroom dresser. I purchased the bowl exclusively for this purpose.
In a previous post, I talked about how I like to pick up souvenirs from our travels. The little Italian gilt mirror was picked up on our trip last year through Canada and Washington. Isn’t it sweet?
The artwork was picked up at Etcetera’s on one of our many trips to La Jolla. I mentioned Etcetera’s in another previous post as one of the shops I like to frequent when visiting La Jolla. I always leave there with something. These tiny treasures put a smile on my face and each time I look at them I am reminded of our happy travels.
The small tray was a Valentine’s Day gift from Mr. B. that has a heartwarming quote inscribed inside. Naturally, it’s a treasured gift.
The sterling silver vase was from a group of silver inherited from my grandparent’s estate. I use it constantly for fresh flowers and it usually floats throughout the house. I decided to leave it in it’s highly tarnished state for now although that goes in cycles. Sometimes I polish it and other times I enjoy the tarnish and patina. I just depends on my mood. Flowers usually come from the farmer’s market or our own garden. I enjoy having fresh flowers regularly in our home.
A larger bouquet of these pink beauties sit on the living room coffee table at the moment. Maybe you have seen them on my Instagram feed? If not you can see them here.
Many years ago I had several pairs of sunglasses that were accidently thrown away. They ended up in a trash dumpster and by the time I figured out what happened it was too late. My favorite Gucci and Prada sunglasses (among other designer pairs) were among the casualties. It’s been several years since that incident and I am still trying to recover from that fateful fashion emergency. But today is a new day and given that it is actually National Sunglasses Day I plan to use this as an
excuse opportunity to buy a new pair. After all, sunglasses are more than a just a fashion statement, they are the most important accessory in your wardrobe and a good pair will help protect your peepers from the damaging UV rays. For more information how sunglasses can help protect your eyes be sure to visit The Vision Council.
If anyone needs me I plan on being at my local mall, South Coast Plaza (aka Rodeo Drive of Orange County) buying a new pair of sunglasses…after all, there’s no such thing as too many sunglasses!
