Liza Bryan Interiors

I like when I become aware of a new (to me) designer and their work. In the current issue of Atlanta Homes and Lifestyle, there is a feature about the renovation of a home in the beautiful Buckhead neighborhood of Atlanta. The couple has lived here for 30 years and decided to completely transform the home inside and out with a team that included Atlanta interior designer Liza Bryan. Part of the project included editing the couple’s existing furniture and accessories from a lifetime of collecting.  “We kept only her best antiques, only her best china, only her best silver,” explains Liza Bryan. In my own effort to live more simple, it’s a lesson even I have taken to heart.

Marvelous Merrywood

In McLean, Virginia, about 8 miles from Downtown Washington, DC, there lies a beautiful Georgian style estate known as Merrywood on the banks of the Potomac River. Built in 1919, the 23,000 (!) square foot home is situated on 7 private acres and is currently for sale by AOL co-founder Steve Chase but it was long ago the childhood home of Jackie Kennedy. She spent her teenage years here before going off to boarding school and often “summered” here.

I always love it so at Merrywood—so peaceful … with the river and those great steep hills,” Bouvier wrote in 1944, when she was a teenager.  (via Town & Country Magazine)

The property has been restored and much of its original architectural detailing is intact. The interiors were designed by acclaimed interior designer Barry Dixon in warm, muted tones. Now let’s take a look inside…

Be sure to check out the video accompanying the listing of the property on the Sotheby’s website. The private gates are literally opened and you are transported down the beautiful stone lined driveway and welcomed into the home to provide you with a more in-depth look at this stunning estate.

I feel like I haven’t posted about a great house in a while. What’s up with that? Well, today we take a look inside the home of the architect couple Anne Fairfax and Richard Sammons, owners of the architecture firm Fairfax & Sammons. They purchased the 1,200 square foot Greenwich Village home in 2000 from the estate of Armand Hammer and began a complete renovation of the property both inside and out. The interior design was overseen by Anne Fairfax and Marina Killery and a new garden was constructed at the front of the house by landscape architect Charles Stick.
