Valentine 2018_Reviving Charm blog

Happy Valentines Day! Mr. B and I have never really celebrated Valentine’s Day and this year is no exception. But I will admit that I am using the day as an excuse to wear the red lipstick! A perfect pout is always in order for Valentine’s Day…and every day.

I wish you the best for a day filled with love and lots of kisses. From my heart to yours…XOXO.

Inspire Your Heart With Art Day on Reviving Charm blog

I like to joke that there is a “holiday” for everything. I am not sure how it came to be but today is considered “National Inspire Your Heart with Art Day”. I have a great respect for the arts after years of studying art and architecture throughout high school and college. I love visiting museums, although I don’t visit as often as I would like. Art presents itself in a variety of forms and is a subject that touches everyone differently and what moves me may not move you and vice versa. valentines heart gift tag 4_Reviving Charm

I use to sketch quite a bit while in college although my skills are extremely rusty. But every now and then I love to pick up the paintbrush and do a quick watercolor, usually something abstract in nature. This past weekend I thought I would pull out my watercolors to create some gift tags for Valentine’s Day. What better way to celebrate Inspire Your Heart with Art Day than sharing what I’ve created? Hopefully, this will inspire you to take time out to enjoy your own creative skills. (What creative thing do you enjoy doing most?)

This project was simple and convenient since I had all the supplies already on hand. I trimmed my watercolor paper to size (approximately 2 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches) and created simple graphic images using watercolors. I punched a hole in the corner of each tag and attached matching satin cord. Easy peasy and Voilà… simple gift tags and miniature works of art for recipients to enjoy.  valentines heart gift tag 3_Reviving Charmart inspiration quote_Reviving Charmvalentines heart gift tag 2a_Reviving Charm

Buon San Valentino! Can you tell I have been working on my Italian?!!

Happy Valentines Day…What does the day hold for you? Valentine’s Day has never been a big deal for me. In fact, Mr. B and I usually never go out on Valentines Day. However, for a split moment, I thought about making a dinner reservation at a local restaurant. When I realized that it was going to cost us at least $200 for a meal (not including alcohol) at a local restaurant I said, “forget it”. I’m far from frugal and will pay for great food but that same meal for two would normalIy cost about half that amount and on any other day we won’t have to deal with the crowds. We typically celebrate with a nice romantic dinner for two at home. This year is no exception. I won’t be cooking…that’s Mr. B’s job. But this year he’s getting the night off since we arranged to pick up some fabulous take out. We’re keeping it simple and I really couldn’t be happier.

I hope your day is filled with lots of happiness, sexy smiles, love and, of course, kisses. This can be a tough day for those without a significant other so how about thinking of a way to make it extra special for them today. After all, showing a bit of kindness never goes out of style.

By the way, isn’t this the most charming picture? I sure hope they took the advice I gave in this post!  XOXO.

It has been an unusually wet and cold winter in Southern California and I wasn’t sure how my skin would react to the new season. Before any issues could arise I took matters into my own hands to really mix up my skincare routine. I have been using some great products lately and my skin looks and feels great. The change in products has been a good thing since I haven’t experienced any dryness this winter (knock on wood!). A couple of weeks ago I ran into someone I haven’t seen in a few months and one of her first questions to me was, “Are you doing anything different? Because you are glowing and your skin looks radiant”. I will admit..she made my day.

During winter you start hearing a lot about skin care products to help prevent dryness and flaky skin. However, one of the most overlooked areas is your lips. You shouldn’t neglect to exfoliant and moisturize your lips to keep them kissable soft. Guys, this also includes you! And with Valentines Day coming up, now is the time to get your lips ready for any makeout sessions that may be in your future! valentines-kiss-me-quote-via-reviving-charm-1

When it comes to taking care of your lips, the goal is to keep them soft, supple and moisturized. Lip care involves little effort, which is great when you’re short on time. If you are looking for a few products to keep your lips looking and feeling their best, I’d like to share a few products with you. The best thing is that these products can help keep your pout looking and feeling great this winter…and throughout the rest of the year.

Fresh Sugar Serum Advanced Therapy. I have been a fan of Fresh products for many years but had not tried this serum until last year since it was included in a gift pack I purchased. I’m always game to try new beauty products! It is a lightweight serum housed in a pump that goes on feeling like a thin lotion to help with fine lines. Originally, I wasn’t sure how it would fit into my skincare routine so I tried using it at night and in the morning to see which I liked best. I found that I prefer using it in the morning since another Fresh product works best for me at night. I barely use just half a pump of this serum on my lips each morning after I brush my teeth. I finish my morning routine and apply my lipstick last so the serum has a chance to absorb. If I apply too much and find that my lips feel too glossy before applying lipstick then I will wipe off any excess serum before applying my color. I’m not sure if it was intended for this, but I have found that it works well as a great primer for my lipstick. Fresh says that it can be used alone throughout the day but it doesn’t provide the hydration that I need on its own. So for daytime hydration for men and women I would suggest….

Fresh Sugar Nourishing Lip Balm – Advanced Therapy. If you are carrying around Chapstick …get rid of that waxy little tube now! I absolutely love this product and is a beauty product staple that I can’t live without. I apply it at night and find that when I wake up in the morning my lips are soft and smooth. It comes in a nice small container so it’s easy to tote around if you simply want to use it as a lip treatment throughout the day. The price point is also great considering that a little goes a very, very long way.

fresh-sugar-lip-polish-review-via-revivingcharmFresh Sugar Lip Polish. This product has a cult following and I’m one of the loyal users of this particular lip scrub. I scoop out a tiny amount and rub it over my lips in a circular motion to help exfoliate and condition. I usually leave it on for about a minute (give or take) for extra conditioning. This is gritty and slightly oily so it is best to wipe it off with a damp washcloth. I like to use this once or twice a week. It’s always included in my Sunday Spa Day ritual at home. It’s exfoliating but gentle enough to use day or night. It will leave your lips feeling conditioned without leaving a heavy oily residue.

sara-happ-lip-scrub-review-via-revivingcharmThe Lip Scrub by Sara Happ. Sara Happ is touted as a purveyor of luxury lips. What’s not to love about her product that comes packaged in a cute little box tied with a satin bow? I recently started using this product and have incorporated it into my Sunday Spa Day routine. I have to admit that this product is giving the Fresh Sugar Lip Polish a run for its money. I am currently using Peppermint but it also comes in several yummy “flavors” (although not meant to be consumed) such as Sparkling Pink Grapefruit, Passion Fruit, Vanilla Bean and Sprinkles Red Velvet (yes, like the cupcakes!). It has a slightly grittier consistency and a tad oilier the Fresh version. I particularly like this for use at night before bedtime or any other time when I want to sport a nude lip. I love the Peppermint scent but I really want to try the Grapefruit version also.

So there you have it…a line up of great products to get your lips in kissable shape before Valentines Day and keep them in tip top condition. Don’t forget that staying hydrated is also essential, not only for your lips and skin but for overall good health.

Happy smooching…XOXO.

**Because sharing is caring…For a limited time Nordstrom is offering a free gift with any Fresh purchase over $75.00. Who doesn’t love free? Plus it’s a great way to try some new product!

Happy Valentine’s Day! Mr. B and I are spending some time in La Jolla, California, a lovely community on the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. If you want to see what we’ve been up to I have shared a few things from our trip on Instagram and Twitter. When I am back, I will be sharing a few of our experiences with you. In the meantime, enjoy your Valentine’s day with a fun color combination of pink and red inspired by the painting below by Artist Mark Rothko.

This image is an oldie but a goodie from the March 2008 issue of Elle Decor. It remains a favorite of mine and seems particularly appropriate to post on Valentine’s Day. However, it also provides a good segway leading to a post for later in the week. I won’t tell you any more but if I have piqued your interest you’ll just have to check back! However, I will give you a hint: the fabric on the headboard seen here is by Fortuny which could possibly be the topic of something I will be writing about soon. Enough said…..
