The Great Table Skirt Debate

I started reading blogs in 2007 when blogging was just in its infancy stage. And when it comes to decor, I’ve found that over the past 17 years there is probably no other design element that creates as much controversy in “blogland” as the table skirt. There seems to be no middle ground; people either love the look of a table skirt or they don’t. I have been a loyal fan that falls into the “love it” camp and I stopped dead in my tracks earlier today when I came across this image in an ad for Soane Britain.

tableskirt_Reviving CharmI have always wanted to incorporate a table skirt into our own home. I am happy to say that when we moved into our seaside ranch home four years ago, it provided a great opportunity to make that happen and we currently have one in progress that covers an octagon entry table in the living room. Table skirts can help soften the look of a piece of furniture and provide added texture and pattern to a room. They have a simple elegance to them. And if you’re short on space, the use of a table skirt can be a great opportunity to provide a bit of extra storage while providing a touch of style to a room. Admittedly, the only thing that mine is hiding at the moment is dust bunnies…

What do you think of a table skirt? Love it or leave it?

I love this particular table skirt, and the vignette table top. That said, I used to have one and after many years, I no longer desire one. I certainly appreciate the beauty and storage they can provide. Hope you’ll share the beauty of yours once installed.
